Become a Friend of the Field of Dreams

The dream started in 2013 when our founder, Lee den Hond became the third South African woman to summit Mount Everest.

Lee’s Everest journey was followed by ordinary South Africans, who, like us, believe that anything is possible if you follow the dream.

The dream was to serve the children of Schaumburg community – an informal settlement in the Hartbeespoort region. The Schaumburg community consists of approximately 1 000 shacks, housing on average nine people each, so the estimated population of this area is about 9 000 residents.

Most of the inhabitants are migrant labourers or people who were displaced from neighbouring countries and are therefore not eligible for government grants.

More importantly, many children from Schaumburg are “undocumented”, meaning that children of school-going age do not have official documentation required for proof of identity or legal residency to be admitted to a school.

Our dream was and remains to say YES instead of NO to all children who need education, nutrition, healthcare and stimulation.

The dream became a reality on the 19th of May 2015 when the soil was turned and the

Field of Dreams Children’s Centre started taking shape.

Since opening our doors in 2015 we have achieved the following milestones:

  • Over 12 350 meals served to children
  • Centre registered as an Early Childhood Development Centre.
  • All staff are fully accredited in ECD Training and First Aid Medical Support
  • Internationally accredited online courses for Teens and Adults
  • Opened the doors to a Clinic with a focus on Women and Children
  • Gardening projects successfully upskilling members of the community.

We extend a personal invitation to YOU to join the dream and be part of something bigger by saying YES to the DREAM.
